I was going to write a blog about Illuminati but seeing as this is the first blog I have ever written, breakfast seemed like a much simpler and more gratifying topic. So how many of us actually eat breakfast? My guess is a really small amount. I have to admit I am guilty of not having the recommended 3 meals a day. Like a lot of us I usually just eat a large lunch or a late dinner, but never breakfast.  The main question is; why is eating breakfast so important? Sure we’ve all heard that eating breakfast is important but for those of us who didn’t hear why there may be some unanswered questions like; What is healthy/ not healthy to eat or drink in the morning? How much do you need to eat for breakfast? How long do you wait after you wake up to eat? Does it matter what age you are? Does skipping breakfast make you look older or make you age faster?  Will eating breakfast make you lose your appetite for lunch? What if you don’t have enough time to eat in the morning? What if you’re not hungry? Does skipping breakfast make you gain more weight? These are important questions because it pertains to our health and well-being. And as people get older they start focusing more on their health, we all know we can’t be young and sexy forever! Well most of us can’t ha ha. Which brings me to another question, how does skipping breakfast affect your health? This is one I have been wondering about a lot lately. I’m really absorbed by this topic; and I’m sure the Internet would have the answers to the questions above and much more. Hopefully much is learned in the posts ahead so there can be enough information to start healthier habits in my life as well as yours!

  1. I find myself wondering the same things. I dont eat if I dont have time and most of the time if I dont have time then neither does my son. Is it bad that we both skip breakfast sometimes? And sometimes he will tell me that he isnt even hungry. Should I make him eat? (He is two by the way) I will be keeping up on your post cause I am intrested to see what the answers to all your questions are.

  2. I eat breakfast every day! :-)

With this inquiry, you will run into a lot of different opinions based on different theories of an ideal diet. How will you handle the mass of competing information out there?

To find the best sources, go with library database articles, newspaper and magazine articles, and government documents. I would bet the government has some info on breakfast related to the food pyramid and other nutritional guidelines it furnishes.

  3. The breakfast controversy has been around for years. I have heard a lot of myths but I think that the most relatable example that I had listened to is that when you go for so many hours your body shuts down. Breakfast is simply breaking a fast as you sleep. The nutrition experts always say that calories don’t start to burn until there is something there for your body to work with. I don’t know if I believe this but this is what I had heard for years. The questions about looking younger intriguers me and I wonder if you found anything about this? I wonder if there is any research on will eating breakfast help keep you healthier or keep you from some illnesses like cancer. My mom always told me, if I don’t have time to eat grab fruit, just an idea.

  4. Hi Amber,
Great topic, sense I dont eat breakfast usually. I find myself never hungery in the morning, but I do drink about 1/2 pot of coffee a day. The questions I have on the topic would be, why am I not hungery when I wake up? Does the amount of coffee I drink make me not hungrey? I am interested to see what you find out about the topic.

  5. I too am interested to see what you find out. I hardly ever eat breakfast. I find that when I do eat breakfast, I am much hungier a few hours later than I am when I don't eat breakfast. Plus three meals a day ends up costing me more money. I have trouble justifying that.
I look forward to your research.

  6. Interesting topic choice. I eat breakfast everyday because personally, I don't feel very focused and seem to lack energy if I skip it. I also find myself wondering: "How much do you need to eat for breakfast? How long do you wait after you wake up to eat I thought these were great questions. Will this affect how "beneficial" breakfast is? I also wonder if there are any long term health related issues associated with not eating breakfast? The only immediate issue I see with not eating breakfast is your body not functioning at it's full potential given its lack of fuel. I'm interested to see what more you find out about this topic.

  7. I admit that I'm more likely to skip breakfast than I am to skip lunch/dinner. Generally I'm not hungry first thing upon waking and I don't like to wake up early. So I get up, get dressed, and leave for work.

Interestingly, I also read at Cracked.com that some scientists argue that breakfast is the BEST meal to skip if you are intending to lose weight. Sadly they don't link to studies about that but for your review here is the link to the article where that is mentioned. Just do a CTRL-F for breakfast and you'll find the comment: http://www.cracked.com/article_19296_6-lies-about-human-body-you-learned-in-kindergarten_p2.html

  8. I am excited to see your research. My family is focused on health. It seems funny that I do not eat breakfast because I am never hungry until about noon. I make sure my husband and kids each get a healthy meal, but I do not eat with them.

I find if I force myself to eat breakfast than I am hungrier all day and will be tempted to snack.

I heard that the cereal companies started the theory that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I

  9. Oh boy! I'm glad you are writing about this because I've had this conversation with many friends. I know its bad to skip breakfast but I can never give them the reason WHY. Now I can go into these conversations prepared!
